Savona – The City of the Popes

Home to a major tourist and commercial port, port of call for major cruise lines and gateway to the renowned Riviera of the Palms: the city of sailor Leon Pancaldo is aiming for a more human scale.
Savona has just under 60,000 residents and the average age of residents is around 49, with an average per capita income of about €22,000 (source: Immobiliare.it).
Tourist numbers are steadily increasing and affect the area throughout the year, with a natural peak during the summer period (source Regional Tourism Observatory).

Arts & Culture

Savona combines the charm of a historic center, rich in valuable architectural and artistic works, with the modernity of the new dock district, signed by world-class designers.
The Pinacoteca Civica, housed in the prestigious Palazzo Gavotti, has a valuable collection of ancient art and is enriched by works created by the greatest contemporary masters: from Picasso to Miró.

Priamar Fortress

The Priamar (pri-a-màr, “stone on the sea,” or also “pri-a-mà,” “bad stone,” since it consists of a promontory of crumbly stone) is a natural hill located facing the sea; the 16th-century fortress that stands on the hill today also bears the same name. The fortress, a symbol of the city, is now a kind of cultural citadel. From its imposing ramparts it is possible to enjoy a 360-degree view of the city, harbor and sea.

Beaches

The Blue Flag is an international award, established in 1987, which is given annually in 41 countries; the “Blue Flag” award stands for the quality of services offered, water clarity, quality of tourist and environmental services, and excellent accessibility of beaches.

Gastronomic excellence

Savona’s Chinotto represents a true delicacy recognized and protected by Slow Food. Farinata and Panissa, ancient glories of popular cuisine, become excellent street food and are characteristic of the entire Savona area.
