Genova, the Superb

The biggest Italian port. Birthplace of Christopher Columbus. City of pesto sauce and the Lanterna lighthouse. Capital of Liguria and European Capital of Culture in 2004. Genoa is definitely one in a kind.

Much of the historic center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the caruggi, alleys and Strada Nuova, Via Garibaldi, where the splendid palaces of the Rolli stand.
Making the city famous are numerous palaces, including Palazzo San Giorgio in the Porto Antico area, the Palazzo della Nuova Borsa in Piazza de Ferrari with Palazzo Ducale is the main square. Adjacent to it is the Carlo Felice Theater.
Genoa was the birthplace of such notable figures as Cristoforo Colombo, Giuseppe Mazzini, Goffredo Mameli, Niccolò Paganini, Fabrizio De Andrè and Eugenio Montale.

Beaches

Genoa, with its coastline stretching more than 30 kilometers, offers beaches to suit all tastes, from wide, sandy beaches with coves and cliffs to dive off of to more distant, narrow and short beaches.
Close to the center, about ten minutes away for those who don’t want to stray too far we go into the beautiful Boccadasse beach.
